Do you find you have trouble trying to control your bladder? You may be suffering from urinary incontinence if you find any of the following to be true:

  • You’ve lost control of your bladder.
  • You’ve had sudden, frequent urges to urinate.
  • You’ve leaked urine when you laugh, sneeze, or cough.

What is urinary incontinence? And, is it common?

If you’re facing urinary incontinence, you are not alone. It’s estimated that 25 million adults in America are affected by the condition. It is simply explained as, “the inability to hold urine in the bladder.” It is very common, but, many people feel uncomfortable seeking help or talking about it with their doctor.

There are various ways to treat incontinence, one of which is therapy.

Physical and occupational therapy can help create a personalized treatment plan to help you manage your urges. Some therapy methods include:

  • Altering your diet to include healthy fluids, while avoiding potentially irritating foods
  • Changing certain behaviors that may make urges worse
  • Practicing muscle strengthening or stretching techniques
  • Maintaining a regular exercise regimen

Don’t be embarrassed if you’re facing incontinence issues – they are manageable. Talk to your doctor and see if therapy may be right for you. Regain your life and confidence back!
