Our Story
Elizabeth Scott became a pioneer in long-term care in 1949 when she began caring for residents in her converted farm home. Elizabeth Scott Community would become the first long-term care community to be licensed in northwest Ohio. Elizabeth worked tirelessly for improved state legislation for nursing homes and served as one of the five original members of the Ohio Nursing Home Association.
Heritage Pointe Communities acquired Elizabeth Scott Community in 2025 and shares a similar origin story.
Heritage Pointe also began on a farm.
In 1910, 58 acres of farmland was purchased in Warren, Indiana, for the Methodist Memorial Home for the Aged. The farm provided food for the Home. This was the first location of what would become Heritage Pointe Communities, which now operates three senior living communities in Indiana: Heritage Pointe of Warren, Heritage Pointe of Ft. Wayne, and Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Elizabeth Scott Community is Heritage Pointe’s first community in Ohio.
Heritage Pointe Communities and Elizabeth Scott Community are a good match because they have both been family-operated, and they have remarkably similar philosophies and values. The goal of Heritage Pointe Communities is “to be the premier communities for aging adults, committed to excellence of care through grace, compassion, and respect.” Elizabeth Scott’s founding philosophy was “to care for residents like they are family.” Because all the communities offer independent living and continuing levels of care, residents can remain on campus as their health needs change.
